“A Playas Gotta Play”
While touring South America with Whitney Houston in ‘94, I had the pleasure to visit a club in Santiago, Chile that had a profound impact on my musical journey.
The entrance was on the street level, but the club was in what felt like the basement and had a spirit & life of its own. On one of the club walls was a painting of a man who seemed to be the guardian of the vibe of the club. Beside his image was a declaration or creed in Spanish. We were told it said something like “ This place is to be a home for the creators of music, may the spirit of music & creativity always have a home.” This is not an exact quote but this is what I took away from the experience that lasted until we had to leave in order to make our 8:00 am lobby call. A guitarist named Louis Salinas played his heart out and made Mike Baker & myself feel quite welcome to do the same. It was a night we’ll never forget.
It is my goal to provide a vehicle where similar memories can be born.
Join me in launching “a nice place to be” here in the Los Angeles area.
